As the 2026 Winter Olympics gets underway, Team USA’s women’s ice hockey team is full of star power. They are a favorite to win the gold medal. Among the players, Laila Edwards, has emerged as a key piece for Team USA. Laila is not only a great player, she is making history. Laila Edwards is the first Black woman to play for the U.S. Women’s National Team and the first to compete in the Olympics. Laila, a 6 ‘1 defenseman from Cleveland Heights, Ohio. She attends University of Wisconsin. Laila is a 2x National Champion with the Badgers and a gold medalist for the IIHF Women’s World Championship. Laila Edwards is one of the best young stars for USA Hockey. On February 5th, Laila made her Olympic debut against Czechia. Starting on first-line defense, Laila got an assist on the first goal scored for Team USA in a 5-1 win vs. Czechia. With Laila Edwards’ family wanting to be in attendance, they set up a GoFundMe with the goal to raise $50,000 to go and watch Laila in Milan. With donations flooding in, one donation was made for $10,000 from Travis and Jason Kelce. Travis and Jason are from Cleveland Heights and wanted to help get her family to Milan. With the help of everyone who donated, Laila’s family can go and watch her make history.
