The University School Football Team ended the season with a record of 6-4. Team 136 just missed out on the playoffs finishing 13th in Division 2 Region 5 with some great competition, which included schools like Archbishop Hoban, Walsh Jesuit, Hudson, and many more. University School outscored their opponents 219-209. After starting the season 2-3, US were victorious in four of their last five games to end the season. There is a lot to be proud of for Team 136 and a lot to look forward to in the upcoming seasons.
Some signature wins for Team 136 came against rival Gilmour Academy and St. Charles Prep. The 29-22 win over Gilmour Academy was all the more impressive given that US was down 22-15 going into halftime. The defense made a huge stop on the goal line to end the half with Coach Malbassa saying in an interview with Tony Bogan, “that stop before the half was a heart play.” It truly felt like the momentum had shifted for US with the Student Section being loud and Coach Malbassa sprinting and waving his arms while going to the locker room. Team 136 would go on to score 14 unanswered points and defeat Gilmour Academy 29-22.
In what was possibly the biggest night in US history, University School faced off with St. Charles Prep in the first game in US History held beneath Friday night lights! tAt the Shaker Campus, vibes were high with the students, players, and spectators all showing their support for US. It was a night to remember for University School! Team 136 came out on top with a 21-20 win.
Congratulations to Team 136 on an incredible season. Thank you to seniors captains Griff Koch, Colin Milbourn, Aaron Kim, Caleb Pantek, Carson Pantek, and Matteo Morelli for leading the team. To all the seniors, thank you for your hard work and dedication throughout your high school football career.
