First airing in mid-2021, the second season of Apple TV’s Ted Lasso still provides a sense of relief and comfort when viewers need it most. However, as a show, there is always room for improvement. While seeing the departure of some characters, it also welcomes new ones who add their own aspect to the show. Throughout the season, elements of betrayal, comedy, romance, and so many more add to the amazing show and, without a doubt, made me and my family laugh when we needed it.
Jason Sudeikis returns as Ted, a professional soccer coach with little to no knowledge of the game. Similar to the first season, Ted faces many different challenges in his newly found home, including the return of previously difficult players, betrayal by his closest “friends”, and accepting the fact that he may have to meet people in the middle to be the best person and friend he can be. However, he also has his great days with his real friends by his side to support him, helping him navigate those tougher days.
The new season introduces new plots not seen in the first season, leaving viewers waiting to see what happens next. These plots include bringing a sports psychologist to help with the team’s headspace issues, romantic lives in characters we hadn’t seen before, and the return and departure of characters. These plots and so many more are, mostly, entertaining to watch and build to the season’s final episodes well.
One of the show’s main aspects is its hilarious comedy. Like the first season, the comedy does not take away from the plot and will often add to the plot or soften the blow of previous scenes or episodes. The revival of jokes from the first season and the creation of new ones tied to this season’s plot leave viewers laughing and enjoying themselves as they continue to watch the show.
Finally, the introduction of new characters and the return of familiar faces provides a great cast to carry out the show. The characters’ different personalities add to one another excellently, making the show even more fun to watch. The side characters add to the show just as much as the central characters, making it interesting to see what happens with each character.
Overall, while I don’t think the second season is as good as the first, it provides viewers with moments of humor, hope, sadness, and everything in between. I highly recommend watching Ted Lasso and enjoying everything it has to offer you. As I finish up the third season and the fourth season releases, I can’t wait to see what happens next.
