University School Welcomes Ms. Carolyn Neal

Ali Gardezi, Staff Writer

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Ms. Carolyn Neal, the new head librarian of the Wean Research Library here at the upper campus. Ms. Neal  occupies the post after the recent departure of Ms. Ulery, now the Director of Technology. In our meeting, we discussed what brought her to University School and what impact our community has had on her.

She recalls the beginning of the school year, the morning assembly as well as the ceremonial handshake. She found this to be a welcoming experience and a great way to interact with the students. Ms. Neal greatly admires the prominence of University School’s motto: Responsibility. Loyalty. Consideration. She remarks, “I have experienced and witnessed how this genuinely works for each member of the community.” When I asked her about how University School differs from where she used to work, she spoke about how the US community serves as the perfect environment for every individual to be themselves. “It is different at US because each person is allowed the opportunity to grow and express their talents and abilities in a non-judgmental venue which allows everyone to thrive!”

At the end of my interview, I concluded with asking her about how she could best describe her time at University School. She responded with a quote from the movie Hope Floats: “My cup runneth over!” Ms. Carolyn Neal, a member of Goodwillie house, hopes to become an active member of the community, expressing her desire to lead a club of the Multi-Cultural Organization in the near future.
