Ms. Pribble’s fall play titled Enter Laughing was a great hit at University School and just closed in the past month. Yet without much time to celebrate one show’s success, Ms. Pribble is already working on the spring musical’s casting and production.

The 2018 spring musical is called The Mystery of Edwin Drood, which is centered around a book written by Charles Dickens called Edwin Drood. The book is about a character who disappears on a dark and stormy night, and the mystery surrounding his disappearance. However, before Dickens could wrap up this story with a climactic ending, Dickens died from a stroke. The ending of the story was never completed and even today it’s still a mystery as to what happened to the missing character in Edwin Drood.

The musical version of this story, entitled The Mystery of Edwin Drood, is about a musical performance in London, in which the producers of the musical can’t figure out what to do about this unfinished ending to the story. In order to relieve the curiosity of the audience, the audience members themselves are actually given a chance to vote on which ending they would like to see out of eight possible options, all of which the entire cast has memorized before the performance. This different take on the spring musical is sure to be interesting, as it is one of the few shows that University School has run that involves audience participation.

Auditions for the spring musical are soon, starting on December 4th, and the play itself will run on May 3rd, 4th, and 5th. It will be exciting to see the Mystery of Edwin Drood resolved by the University School cast and audience, and it will be even more exciting to see if Ms. Pribble can once again top her previous performances.
