Last week University School was visited by Cleveland mayor, Frank Jackson. Mayor Jackson discussed a variety topics with all of us, but focused primarily on the upcoming Republican National Convention. The assembly was made possible by the University School convention club, which seeks to inform students on the process of selecting a presidential candidate, and get involved with the national convention themselves. This assembly was a great example of how University School provides a unique environment to grow and expand.
Mayor Jackson talked about many topics, such as the security during the RNC, the benefits of hosting the RNC, and the history of the RNC. After a few minutes of talking, Mayor Jackson opened up the floor to questions from students. This was a great way for students to get more involved in the assembly and learn quite a bit about Cleveland and the RNC. The mayor’s optimism regarding Cleveland is inspiring. Everyone came out of the assembly with a new fascination and appreciation of the many benefits of living near Cleveland. The assembly was just one in a greater effort to inform and spark curiosity in University School boys.
Overall, the assembly proved itself to be a great way to actively get all students at least thinking about the historical event that will be happening in Cleveland in the upcoming months. Everyone greatly appreciated the time Mayor Jackson spent to speak to our school community.
