The NFL offseason and free agency have kicked off in full force this week, with deals flying in with extraordinary numbers. Here are the 7 most important deals to happen thus far:
1. Demarco Murray traded to the Titans
Demarco Murray was traded to the Titans for a 4th round pick. The Eagles appear to be offloading some of the unsuccessful players from Chip Kelly’s regime, with Murray being the most prominent of them. Murray will be a great addition to the Titans and their promising team.
2. Alex Mack signs with the Falcons
Mack is a painfully loss for the Browns, as Mack has been a key part of the Browns for the past couple seasons. The Browns had huge success under Mack in the 2014 season and part of the 5 game losing streak suffered during his absence shows how important he has been to the Browns’ offensive line. Mack will help the Falcons fix some of their offensive line problems.
3. Raiders sign Bruce Irvin and Kelechi Osemele
The Raiders have made some big moves so far. Having the most cap space before the free agency, the Raiders went out and got the best offensive lineman in free agency and the best linebacker. Irvin and Osemele moves have significantly improved their team.
4. Jaguars sign Malik Jackson and Tashaun Gipson
The Jaguars also had a lot of cap space going into free agency and improved their defense. They signed Jackson, the best available free agent, to bolster their defensive line, and Gipson to improve their secondary. With a potent offense, the Jaguars could make a playoff push.
5. Texans sign Brock Osweiler and Lamar Miller
The Texans have found their quarterback. Osweiler, who started 7 games this past year, was key in the Broncos regular season success, even beating the Patriots. He comes into a Texan team that desperately needs more weapons – a problem also addressed by the signing of Lamar Miller, a versatile running back.
6. The Bears sign Danny Trevathan
The Broncos have lost another great player from their Super Bowl winning team. Trevathan is a great inside linebacker, who flew under the radar in the stacked Denver defense.
7. Lions sign Marvin Jones
The Lions fixed their need for a WR with Marvin Jones, only a day after Calvin Johnson announced his retirement. Marvin Jones is a very good receiver who now becomes their number 1 receiver.

What should our Brownies be doing in free agency?

Good question. For a longer and better answer look at Corry Neer’s article on how to fix the Browns. I think the Browns should look to replace the positions lost in free agency (right tackle, center, safety and wide receiver) and look to improve our run defense and wide receivers. The Browns said from the start they didn’t want to be big spenders so they may do it all in the draft, but I hope they do something in the free agency period
