The varsity baseball team’s season has just begun. This year’s team will be led by Coach Mike Berg and senior tri-captains Frankie Sinito ’16, Robbie Engoglia ’16, and Brian Lettrich ’16. Despite the start of the season being inhibited by snow and rain, coach Berg listed the team’s goals for this year as becoming both “more consistent ” and “more fundamentally sound”. Emphasizing opportunistic base running, efficient pitching, and consistent hitting will lead the Preppers to a successful season.
The pitching rotation will be led by Sophomore Matt Kalady, Juniors Andrew Mayor, Quinn Stephenson, and Will Kilroy, and Senior Piece Hamilton. Will Kilroy and Brian Lettrich are expected to be the team’s leading hitters The infield will start Matt Kalady at shortstop, and Robbie Engoglia at second base. Will Kilroy and Brian Lettrich will patrol the outfield. Junior Justin Walton will be the team’s primary catcher. The competitive schedule began April 1st against Benedictine High School – the game was an exciting one, played in the pouring rain and sleet at the historic League Park. Despite being a neck and neck competition, the Preppers eventually fell. This year’s schedule is filled with competitive teams and, hopefully, better weather. Big things are expected from the team as the season continues, so Preppers, come support the baseball team and be ready for an exciting season!
