As the University School Preppers are coming off of a strong 2022-2023 season with a record of 9-3, the Preppers have been looking to continue their excellent performance on the football field. Captained by George Minello, Jackson Boland, Lex Kekic, Sean Fioritto, Noah Tidmore, and Cam Beiswenger, the seniors have cultivated a culture of success along with the coaching staff. The Preppers started off the season slowly going 0-2, but bounced back quickly with 4 straight wins. With a huge win over the Bay Village Rockets, the Preppers made history by putting together one of the greatest comeback wins in University School history, beating the Rockets 21-17. The Preppers then built some momentum with 2 great wins over Richmond Heights, 39-6, and over Shaw, 48-6. For the second straight year, University School beat the team up the street largely by a score of 36-21, a game which also delivered coach Malbasa his 100th win as a head coach. Jackson Boland ‘24 led the team with 3 rushing touchdowns while Darius Forrest ‘24 put up a rushing touchdown early in the first quarter along with the defense played with grit as they had interceptions from Noah Tidmore ‘24, Duke Brennan ‘24, and a pick 6 from Kam Shiver ‘25 in the big game.
The football team is grateful to the student body for bringing the energy and having one of the biggest student sections in recent years. Head Coach, Ben Malbasa ‘96, and the rest of the coaching staff have paved the way to success for the Preppers. The junior class have looked to step up in leadership opportunities and the underclassmen have a great deal of potential on the field. The Preppers take on Valley Forge this Saturday at 2:00 PM for the Homecoming Game and will face John Adams, Steubenville, and Howland to end the regular season before entering the playoffs. University School Varsity Football will continue to need the students’ support at each and every game to try their hardest to win out the rest of the year and make a deep playoff run.
