By Week 10, seventy-five percent of the football teams in the state pack up their things and turn in all of their pads. Those twenty-five percent of teams who will continue to play have accumulated enough points to qualify for the playoffs. This year, the University School Football team clinched a playoff berth after the senior’s last game on their home field against Lakeside. Games this year that allowed the team to get enough points to make the playoffs included: VASJ, Maple Heights, Lakeside, Garfield Heights, Cleveland Central Catholic, Gilmour, and Parma. One of the most exciting games of the season was when the team traveled up, on a Thursday, to Gilmour. On the first play of that game, Joe Kadlic almost ran all the way for a touchdown. Following the electric start, the team continued to dominate the game and won by a score of 28-6. Another big game of the season was against Maple Heights on the day of US homecoming. The team needed to win this game to keep their hopes of the playoffs alive and did just that. The Preppers came out strong in the second half and dominated the rest of the game, resulting in a final score of 37-28 University School. The rigorous schedule the team had this year prepared them for how to deal with big games. For example, in their last game of the season, they traveled down to Steubenville to play an undefeated team on their senior night. Although the team didn’t win, games like this one are what will prepare the Preppers for the playoffs. The University School Football team has their first playoff game Friday, November 3rd, on the road against Padua.
