Ever since the Cleveland Browns came back to the NFL as an expansion franchise in 1999, they have struggled. Aside from their recent failures, the Browns’ rebuild is destined to turn them around into a playoff team. The Browns announced at the end of last year that they were starting to rebuild the team completely. It all started with new head coach Hue Jackson. Despite an 0-12 record, Jackson has earned the respect of his players and is known around the league as an exceptional coach. The record shows none of it. He can’t look good as a coach if he doesn’t have good players. For example, in Cincinnati he coached great players, and once he left for Cleveland, the team immediately went down hill. The Browns will get a handful of new players when the 2017 season rolls around. Cleveland has extra first, second, and fifth-round picks in the draft. But it is crucial that the Browns sign LB Jamie Collins without paying him a ridiculous amount, whom they gave up a conditional fourth-round pick for. If the Browns keep these picks, they have four of the top 64 players in the draft, and hopefully 4 new starters. Having more draft picks increases success rates and creates flexibility when it comes to trades. The Browns also have $82.7 million in cap space next year. This cap room is sure to improve the roster. Many are writing the Browns off in years to come. But keep in mind that they have just begun a rebuild and are actually looking good around the edges with playmakers such as Terrelle Pryor. On paper, the Browns look to have a promising future but they have to push the right buttons, which they have failed to do in recent years.
