This spring, the US baseball team will start a new season. Lead by head coach Chuck Smith, former mayor of Woodmere, this season will be an exciting one. The team will constantly bring up the 2-Run HR that Barry Bonds crushed off Coach Smith, helping Bonds break the single-season home run record. Everyone should be looking forward to the baseball introduction assembly if Chuck leads us in “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” again.

Pay close attention to the seniors as they try to finish their baseball careers with a strong season. This year’s captain, Joe Fedro should have a very strong season. Last year, at shortstop, he lead the team with 1 HR. Joe said, “He is looking forward to playing this season and surpassing Mr. Hess’s home run count of one”. Ryan Alt will use his cheetah-like speed when pinch running late in games. Kyle McCorvey will continue his greatness at warming pitchers up. Matt Kalady will dominate the mound as he looks to stay healthy this season.

This year’s juniors are the core of the team. Lots of returning lettermen mean one of the more experienced teams in recent US history. Nolan Jones looks to continue his sold place at first base and as a pitcher. He believes he will be throwing in the 80’s this year. With his accuracy, watch your head. Other returning pitchers include Jimmy Siskorovsky and Jack Harris. Their catcher will be Nate Mayor who will have a difficult time balancing baseball and debating. This year’s outfield will improve upon last year’s strong showing. Both Brett “Breto” Rodgers and Bobby Housel will keep their roles as starting outfielders. Someone will need to step up for the absence Jordan Stevens left when he departed for St. Edwards.

Lastly, both Nate Elliot and Mike Grassi will return to their positions at second and third base. They are poised to be leaders on future teams as they will easily be the most experienced ball players on the team.
