The New Face of University School Basketball

The University School Varsity Basketball team looks to improve on its successful season last year. Although the team lost some vital seniors from last year, Coach McDonnell and the crew hope to rebound and push even further into the playoff bracket this year. First, it is important to exote the returning gentlemen who all have committed their passion for the game to the program. A core of strong juniors who include, Jack Voudouris, Jordan Scadlock, John Nestor, TJ Kelly, and Grant Pawlikowsky, leads this group. All of these juniors have played many minutes at the Varsity level and surely know what it takes to have success on the floor. Sophomore O’mahn Dobbins adds a polished jump shot that will be huge in the team’s success this year. The team certainly has high aspirations for their season, and the addition of a few key senior members might be enough to fulfill the team’s hunger for the playoffs.

George Nageeb was a co-captain of the soccer team and recently decided to take his talents to the court. Honestly, the kid is just naturally athletic, and from the CBA scouting reports, George will be an exceptional player at the Varsity level.

Cam Hubbard was an essential part of the football’s defensive wall this past fall and is another superb athlete. Whether it be tackling the quarterback or owning the glass, Cam can do it all. He decided to join the team as well, and he will be vital in the team’s defensive.

Finally, senior Jayden Cunningham followed his buddies and also joined the Varsity team this winter. Jayden is committed to Youngstown State University on a football scholarship to play quarterback there. So, naturally, Jayden is an exceptional athlete much like his fellow classmates. Jayden will bring a burst of speed into the team’s lineup, while also applying his leadership qualities in the locker room in order to help guide the team to success.

Coach McDonnell is in his second year as head coach and has been hard at work getting ready for the season. The boys have put in long hard hours in the gym and are ready to get after it. With the addition of some of these seniors to an already strong lineup, the boys will surely be one tough team to beat. Look for the Preppers to battle on the court and be relentless on both sides of the ball.

Facing strong teams like St. Ignatius, the team will need to rally together in order to defeat its opponents. The season looks hopeful for the Preppers, and with the help of these seniors, the team should be able to make a real run in the playoffs. Although there are some powerhouse teams like Benedictine in our side of the bracket, the Preppers can still maintain an aggressive approach to each of their games. The team stands a front-runner in both the big Hawken and the Gilmour games. Hopefully, with this type of skilled lineup, the team can excel and bring home some big wins during the long winter season.
