The US golf team finished 7th at the recent state tournament on October 20-21. The team shot a 660 over 2 rounds of golf at the Ohio State University scarlet course. They finished a respectable 84-over par.

Senior captain Kyle Flatow shot an 82 on the first day and a 76 on the second day to finish 14-over par. He tied for 23rd in the state on an individual level. Senior captain Ben Cowan shot a 165 finishing only 21-over par resulting in tying for 37th on an individual level. Joe Fedro shot a 92 followed by an 88 the next day resulting in him finished 36-strokes over par. This performance resulted in him coming in 64th out of the 84 competitors at the competition.

Joe Fedro was asked what went wrong: “I hit the ball really well but struggled on the greens.” Yet he didn’t let his score keep him down, “Nonetheless, it was such an awesome experience; I’m glad my 76 [at districts] set us up to get to states.”

The juniors of the team did surprisingly well. Tommy Coyne shot a +24 and Brett Rogers shot a +25. This resulted in them placing 44th and 48th, respectively. These juniors will look to improve upon their performances next year. Brett Rogers even hit his first eagle of the season. When asked about his eagle, he said, “I had just crushed a drive right down the middle and had 225 yards to the green. I took out a 5-wood, I hit a frozen rope to pin high on the green and made the putt.” Brett was ecstatic about this putt and hopes to further improve his game and hit more eagles next year.

Next year the golf team hopes to improve upon this year’s efforts. The rising seniors are looking to close out their US golf careers by taking the team to another state championship.
