The University School varsity soccer team has had a great first half of the season as they try to keep the momentum going heading into the post season. Anchored by 8 seniors and a healthy core of returning lettermen, this team has a chance to advance beyond last year’s district semi-final loss to Hawken. With the season just more than halfway over, the preppers stand at seven wins, one loss, and two ties. After losing their first game, the preppers are looking to preserve their nine game unbeaten run for the rest of the season. This accomplishment won’t come easily, but the Preppers have already proven they can handle adversity. The Preppers have tied and beat some of the best division two teams in the area. A 2-2 draw against Lake Catholic and Bay Village, and a thrilling 4-3 win against local rivals Orange have forced local teams to take notice. Led by senior captains Gus Childress and Charlie Olson, the team can’t wait to prove itself in the postseason. A thrilling homecoming win against Chagrin demonstrates everything this team is about: They play for one another, move on and off the ball to open up space for creative attackers. With the previous ten games under their belt, the upcoming schedule for US has nothing but strong competition. This week boasts a difficult schedule of CVCA at home on Tuesday, away at Hawken on Wednesday, and away at Beachwood on Saturday. This experienced team should look to continue their hot streak and battle through the regular season with an impressive resume.
